2.5 years after concussion

Charlotte got brain fog after a concussion

A kick from a horse gave Charlotte a concussion and two and a half years of brain fog, brain fatigue and difficulty concentrating. Here she talks about her Re-Mind treatment and the time after.

"2.5 years ago I was kicked in the head by a galloping horse and suffered a concussion. After that I was able to work 27 hours a week - but it was with brain fog and brain fatigue, and everyday life contained little else than work. I had difficulty concentrating and remembering. Immersion was difficult and it was difficult to keep many balls in the air. I was quite sensitive to sound and I was exhausted from just one hour of concentrated conversation.”

Charlotte's experience of the treatment

Charlotte decided to try the Re-Mind treatment at Neurologic Recovery Clinics. About the treatment and the time after, she says:

"I decided to try the Re-Mind treatment at RN Clinics, and already during the treatment, it felt like someone turned on a light inside my head. I felt an immediate relief. I am definitely less sensitive to sound and can take more."

"It is now 2 weeks since I had my second treatment and I still feel like the greasy windows I have seen through the last 2.5 years, are suddenly bright and clear. I'm still working on improving my cognitive abilities, but it's better than before, and I have a much greater profit."

"I'm hugely relieved and happy that I can now hope for a normal life again."

Charlotte hopes that the treatment will become more widespread, so that more people with long-term consequences of brain trauma can get it better.

How the Re-Mind treatment works

Re-Mind is a medical treatment aimed at neuroinflammation – an inflammatory condition that can occur in the brain after, among other things, a concussion, a traumatic brain injury, a blood clot or bleeding in the brain or covid-19. The treatment is offered by Rehab-Partner | Neurologic Recovery Clinics and is supervised by the clinic's neurologist, Güven Gürbüz, specialist in neurology. He explains the background to the treatment:

"When you have had a concussion, the blood-brain barrier that normally protects the brain can become leaky. This can trigger a long-term inflammatory state in the brain, which we call neuroinflammation. Symptoms such as brain fog, brain fatigue, difficulty concentrating and sound sensitivity - such as those described by Charlotte - are common when neuroinflammation is present. The Re-Mind treatment is aimed at reducing this inflammation. It is important to emphasize that patients do not respond equally to the treatment, and that the effect depends, among other things, on how large a part of the symptoms is due to inflammation."

The treatment is off-label. This means that an approved medicine is used for a purpose other than that for which the medicine was originally approved. All patients receive information about this and give informed consent.

You must know this before a treatment

Before a Re-Mind treatment, you undergo a mandatory specialist assessment, a review of your medical history and screening blood tests. The treatment is only offered if the condition is deemed suitable - and not everyone experiences an effect from the treatment.

The most frequent side effects of the treatment are mild. They may include redness or itching at the injection site, a slight feeling of fever without actual fever, and transient headache, typically for one day.

Re-Mind is offered as a medical supplement to the other treatment and rehabilitation. If you want to know more, you can attend one of the information meetings held by Neurologic Recovery Clinics.
