In January and February 2024, Emilie, who was 18 at the time, received two Re-Mind treatments at the Neurologic Recovery Clinics in Skejby. She herself followed the process closely and talked about her expectations and experiences along the way.
Many treatments with no lasting effect
Before Emilie started at Re-Mind, she had been to a number of experts over several years and tried many different treatments. Before her first treatment, she wrote:
"For several years now, I have consulted all known experts in the field and received a large number of different treatments, on-label as well as off-label. Some with more effect than others. Common to all the treatments, however, is that none of them have provided lasting relief from my problems. I have now chosen to give the Re-Mind treatment a chance. My blood tests have been taken and the doctor has agreed to accept me for the first treatment. I am aware, that there is no guarantee of recovery. I am very excited about the result and look forward to finding out if Re-Mind can help me."
The first treatment
Immediately before the treatment, Emilie rated her headache as 8 out of 10 on a pain scale. A few minutes after the treatment, she said:
"There is a little bit of tension left, but it's much less than before. I haven't felt like this in 3.5 years. It's a strange feeling, but it's also a good feeling to know that it's better now."
Two weeks after
After two weeks, Emilie had her second treatment.
"I haven't taken a afternoon nap since I had the treatment two weeks ago. Two days later I was at the riding school and rode three horses, I was there for 5-6 hours without being exhausted. After the first treatment, my headache disappeared quite quickly, and it has been strange to get used to not having pain all the time." After my first treatment, I no longer had to sleep for dinner. I now participate in all activities and do not get tired or unfocused. It's like having a second chance." brain injury, a blood clot or bleeding in the brain or covid-19. The treatment is offered by Rehab-Partner | Neurologic Recovery Clinics and is supervised by the clinic's neurologist, Güven Gürbüz, specialist in neurology. He explains the background to the treatment:
"When you have had one or more concussions, the blood-brain barrier that normally protects the brain can become leaky. This can trigger a long-term inflammatory state in the brain, which we call neuroinflammation. Symptoms such as constant headaches, brain fatigue and difficulty concentrating - like those that Emilie lived with - are common when neuroinflammation is present. The Re-Mind treatment is aimed at reducing this inflammation. It is important to emphasize that patients do not respond equally to the treatment, and that the effect depends, among other things, on how large a part of the symptoms is due to inflammation."
The treatment is off-label. This means that an approved medicine is used for a purpose other than that for which the medicine was originally approved. All patients receive information about this and give informed consent.
You must know this before a treatment
Before a Re-Mind treatment, you undergo a mandatory specialist assessment, a review of your medical history and screening blood tests. The treatment is only offered if the condition is deemed suitable - and you should know that not everyone experiences the effect of the treatment.
The most frequent side effects of the treatment are mild. They may include redness or itching at the injection site, a slight feeling of fever without actual fever, and transient headache, typically for one day.
Re-Mind is offered as a medical supplement to your other treatment and rehabilitation. If you want to know more, you can attend one of the information meetings held by Neurologic Recovery Clinics.
