Two blood clots changed Sanne's everyday life - a year and a half later, she tries Re-Mind

One and a half years of invisible but debilitating late effects

The months after the blood clots were characterized by pronounced fatigue and brain fatigue, daily headaches, concentration and memory difficulties and reduced overview. Sanne was sensitive to sound and light, had reduced balance and slower reactions, and the contact on the left side – including the left leg in the saddle – was impaired. Riding, which is a big part of her life, only succeeded if she forced herself to go. In order to function, she had to sleep until 8:30–9 and take long naps several times a week.

Skeptical – but decides to try

Sanne found the treatment by accident and was far from convinced:

"I found the treatment by accident and I was honestly very skeptical. Could a few injections really make a difference? I spent a few months contacting other patients and researching their experiences, and even after the information meeting in June I was still in doubt.”

In August she took the leap. After thorough tests and blood tests, Sanne received her first treatment on 25 August 2025. She herself describes the experience during the treatment itself:

"I had a headache when we started. When the tests were repeated afterwards, I could suddenly squeeze harder with my left hand, react faster and stand better on my feet. My husband immediately noticed that my speech was completely different and clear."

On the same day, Sanne rode for the first time without to force yourself:

"It was a wild experience to ride. It felt much easier. I can use my left leg much better, I feel more at ease on the horse and can coordinate and get off the horse more easily afterwards."

The days after the second treatment

Four days later, Sanne found that the changes were permanent. Two weeks later, she had her second treatment. She then describes the days in her own words:

"I wake up before my alarm clock, I am no longer overwhelmed by fatigue, and I can work in the evening again. I can be in the sunshine without sunglasses and sit in large gatherings without being exhausted. I can just be myself again."

Sanne herself puts into words what the treatment has meant for her:

"It has helped me crazy much. I'm both very happy, but also very moved. What an improvement for my quality of life."

How the Re-Mind treatment works

Re-Mind is a medical treatment that targets neuroinflammation - an inflammatory condition that can occur in the brain after, among other things, a concussion, a traumatic brain injury, a blood clot or bleeding in the brain or covid-19. The treatment is offered by Rehab-Partner | Neurologic Recovery Clinics and is supervised by the clinic's neurologist, Güven Gürbüz, specialist in neurology. He explains the background to the treatment:

"After a blood clot in the brain, the brain tissue in and around the affected area can react with an inflammatory process - neuroinflammation - which can contribute to the late effects that many patients experience in the months and years afterwards. Symptoms such as brain fatigue, daily headaches, concentration and memory difficulties, impaired balance, motor disturbances and altered sound and light sensitivity are all compatible with a present neuroinflammation. The Re-Mind treatment aims to suppress this inflammatory condition. It is important to emphasize that the response to the treatment varies from patient to patient - and that not everyone experiences an effect."

The treatment is off-label. This means that an approved medicine is used for a purpose other than that for which the medicine was originally approved. All patients receive information about this and give informed consent.

You must know this before a treatment

Before a Re-Mind treatment, all patients undergo a mandatory assessment by a specialist in neurology as well as screening blood tests and a review of the medical history. The treatment is only offered to patients whose condition is deemed suitable – and there is no guarantee of effectiveness.

The side effects are generally mild. They may include redness or itching at the injection site, a short-term feeling of a slight fever without an actual fever, or a slight transient headache, typically lasting one day.
